Some Brief Notes
I’d just moved from the Bay Area to NYC, 105th and 2nd Ave in East Harlem at first
Lucius is my Tuxedo cat, who came with me
Chek = Chekhov; Dost = Dostoevsky
X-novel; The Crew; R.S. = names of several of my own novels I’d been working on

Jack,
Just remembered how I used to write “Jackie” sometimes, years ago, to mitigate the “male” aspect of “Jack.” Funny. Not a bad choice, really, but sort of silly and funny and unnecessary, honestly. Anyway, it’s 11:42 AM, Thursday, March 28, 2019. Third day, second full day. I woke up round 9:35/9:40, something like that. Loud noises down below on 2nd Ave. Fucking New York City is loud, man. Even here, in East Harlem/UES.
Lucius, btw, had come into the room as I was waking up! He got onto the bed and I pet him! He sat on the foot and a half wide window sill! I couldn’t believe it! Wonderful! I got up and walked into the main room. Lucius peed and pooped (actually last night, too) and ate his hard food! I fed him more hard food and he ate it! Lovely! Made me so damn happy. Still doesn’t seem to be drinking water from his bowl, which is weird, but hopefully it’s ok. After I’m done writing I’m finally going to walk down to the vet place I found on E. 87th (Carnegie Hills Vet) and bring his health certificate and see if they’ll put him in the system. Hopefully they will or, if not, hopefully they’ll be nice about it. I feel weirdly anxious and nervous about talking to them. Not sure why. I get this way sometimes. Insecure.
Anyway, after that I’m going to walk another 10-15 min and get a real litter box for him, and some clumping litter. I might Uber back, we’ll see. I’ll set that all up (oh and I should get him more hard and soft food while I’m at it) and then leave the apartment again; not sure what’s on the agenda for today. Might hang with X but not sure yet. Maybe KGB Bar? Thought of that last night. We’ll see.
I am enjoying the general reality of being here in New York City, I will say that. I need to go to Brooklyn at some point.
